Character Design Study

In this Project I focused on different kinds of character design styles. The goal was to create a unique video gamer character in different art styles.

I started off with a few sketches on paper and turned that into a digital drawing in Photoshop.
image I tried to make the character as cute as possible, by making large, dark eyes and features such as hanging ears. For reference and inspiration I used different cat pictures and various images of armor sets, as well as images from existing character designs.
After establishing the key features of the character, I want on to experiment with a pixel art style. The challenging part was to preserve the most important details using only a limited amount of pixels. Here, the character is still recognizable, even with only 16 by 16 Pixels.

For the final version of the character I used the 3D software Blender. I wanted to achieve a low-poly cartoon style. Like with pixel art, the important thing here was to include only the most important details, while keeping it as simple as possible with very little polygons.  image A viewport screenshot to showcase the topology image Viewport screenshot.
